Moving Learning Forward

Lowe's inspiring Learning Professionals?

Lowe's home improvement stores helped American Idol finalists upgrade their home stages. As Learning professionals, are we helping our Learners optimize where they now perform, that is, their home offices?

This is an opportunity to put your rapid authoring skills to work and to use your LXP, Yammer or other internal system for a little fun. How can you inspire your employees to optimize their home office?

This doesn't need to be serious and strategized. You don't even need to use best practices. This is a chance to cut loose and have fun.

What about a quick animation about the proper use of a tape dispenser? What about a storyboard about how to choose "reply" vs "reply all" in email, in a tongue-in-cheek fashion?

Spoofs and parodies are popular, especially in these trying times. They offer comic relief amidst stressful and scary realities. You can sneak in real learning messages if you give yourself freedom.

At the same time, like Lowe's, maybe you run a contest for your employees to upload a photo of their home office, or a part of it focused on one feature, such as "what do they use to prop up their monitors to a healthy height?" (I use the Harry Potter Book set, for anyone interested.)

Acknowledging the realities and fostering a comfortable and controlled way to talk about working from home can help manage fears and insecurities.

What do you think?
